What is Spheroids SW480 about?
The document presents a protocol to develop and characterize 3D spheroid models of colon cancer cells for use as an in vitro tumor model. Spheroids of different sizes were formed using colon adenocarcinoma SW480 cells seeded in agarose micromolds and allowed to grow for up to 21 days. Spheroids were then characterized by flow cytometry based on cell cycle, mitochondrial function, and apoptosis. Spheroids of 400 μm seeding size and 3 days of growth were found to most closely resemble tumors in vivo.
