What is History of Southern Fingal, Dublin about?
The parish of Castleknock contains the ruins of an early castle built on a mound called the Fort of Cnucha. It was originally much larger than today, comprising numerous townlands named after early families who occupied the land such as Abbot, Blanchard, Carpenter, and Hunt. The parish lies northwest of Dublin city and extends west to Clonsilla parish. It remains a largely rural area despite its proximity to Dublin, and contains archaeological remains including the early fortified site and castle.
