The flooding in Inverness, Scotland in September 2002 was caused by exceptionally heavy rainfall over a short period. Over 74mm of rain fell in 12 hours, flooding local burns and overwhelming drainage systems. This caused widespread flooding of homes, roads, and infrastructure. Emergency services rescued over 200 people and worked to clear debris and pump water. Long term actions included developing flood plans, upgrading drainage systems, and installing flood prevention schemes costing £6-8 million.
