Nick Joaquin was a renowned Filipino writer, historian, and journalist best known for his novels and short stories in English. He was born in 1917 in Manila and was educated through secondary school. He had a prolific writing career spanning several decades, publishing numerous novels, short stories, essays, and works of history. He received many honors and awards for his literary work, including being named a National Artist of the Philippines. He died in 2004 at the age of 86 in Metro Manila.
