The stupa of Vaisali from 600-550 BCE was one of the earliest small stupas made of piled mud with a diameter of 11.63 meters. The stupa at Nagarjunakonda had a diameter of 28 meters and was made of bricks in a wheel-like interior structure. The Dhamek Stupa built in 500 CE replaced an earlier Ashokan structure and is a solid 43.6 meter tall, 28 meter diameter brick and stone cylinder.
