Bob Ashby, a 55-year-old man, is retiring from the Christchurch fire station after over 28 years of service. Ashby is a local man born in Christchurch who joined the fire service in 1938 and became the second full-time firefighter in the borough brigade. During his career, he served in London, Bournemouth, Poole, Portsmouth and Southampton during World War II.
