What is Boukman about?

The prayer is traditionally ascribed to Boukman from the ceremony at Bwa Kayiman. It calls on God, who created the earth and sun, holds the ocean, and makes thunder roar, to provide vengeance for the suffering inflicted on slaves by white men and their god. It asserts that their god will direct their arms to victory and assistance as they throw away the god of the white men who is pitiless and listen to the voice of liberty in their hearts.
