Hyderabad State was formed in 1948 after the princely state of Hyderabad joined the Indian Union. It existed until 1956 when it merged with Andhra State to form Andhra Pradesh under the States Reorganisation Act. The state witnessed violence during its annexation and had a military governor followed by a last Nizam as the ceremonial head.
