Fiber Optic Testing and Standards Quiz by alazar maru is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Most of the problems with fiber optics are caused by poor splices or dirty connectors. To test fiber optic cable plants similar to transmission equipment, an OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) is needed. An OTDR takes a "snapshot" of the fiber under test by using backscattered light measurements. When testing a fiber optic transmission system, connector and splice loss should be tested first.
