Magnesium Perchlorate Gas Analysis by PhuongUblMy is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Thermal analysis of magnesium perchlorate was conducted to understand perchlorates detected at the Phoenix Mars landing site. Magnesium perchlorate released water below 200°C and oxygen gas above 435°C. Nickel, used in the TEGA ovens, reacted with chlorine and oxygen gases, preventing their detection. This explains why chlorine was not observed by TEGA. The study supports that oxygen detected by TEGA came from perchlorate decomposition but at lower levels than seen in the laboratory, likely due to lower pre
