This document summarizes a presentation evaluating the use of Rook to deploy Ceph clusters on Kubernetes. Rook provides orchestration to simplify Ceph deployments. The project tested deploying Ceph for S3 workloads on virtual and physical environments. Results showed Rook deployments were much faster and more elastic than traditional Puppet deployments. While S3 and automated upgrades in Rook are still works in progress, the evaluator concludes Rook is preferable for spawning new Ceph clusters.
