What is Clay Consolidation Time Calculations about?
A laboratory test showed that a 25mm thick clay specimen drained on both sides reached 50% consolidation in 8.5 minutes. To calculate how long it would take a similar 3.2m thick clay layer drained on only one side to reach 50% consolidation, an equation was used that found it would take 387 days. This same equation was then used to calculate that for the same 3.2m thick field clay layer to reach 65% consolidation would take 672 days.
