This study analyzes the impact of dilute povidone-iodine irrigation on the rate of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) in 31,331 primary total joint arthroplasties conducted between 2009 and 2019. Results indicate that the use of dilute povidone-iodine is associated with a significantly lower rate of PJI (0.6% vs 1.3%), translating to a number needed to treat of 137 patients to prevent one infection.
