Results: There were 152 patients (46.7 Ϯ 16 years-old) reviewed; 99 of them were male and 53 were female. Most of them had abdominal pain (147/152; 96.7%) and leukocytosis (122/152; 80.3%), followed by fever (66/152; 43.4%), diarrhea (23/152; 15.1%), and vomiting (10/152; 6.6%). In patients with cecal diverticulitis, 24/91 (26.4%) had undistinguishable clinical course with acute appendicitis that is characterized as initial epigastric or periumbilical abdominal pain with later shifting to the right lower abdomen. Diverticulitis locations were 91 (59.8%) in cecum, 24 (15.8%) in ascending colon, 3 (2.0%) in transverse colon, 10 (6.6%) in descending colon, and 24 (15.8%) in sigmoid colon. In age stratification, patients younger than 65 years had a greater chance of right-side diverticulitis (103/124; 83.1%) than those Ն 65 years (12/25; 48%) (p Ͻ 0.05). Among 91 patients with cecal diverticulitis, 34 (37.4%) patients without CT scans received surgery due to initial suspicion of acute appendicitis.
