IP codes provide a scale for classifying the degree of protection against intrusion, dust, accidental contact and water for electrical enclosures. Table 3.2 shows the minimum equivalent NEMA enclosure rating required to satisfy different IP codes, with IP20 requiring a minimum NEMA rating of 1, IP54 requiring a minimum of 3, IP65 and IP67 requiring a minimum of 4 or 4X, and IP68 requiring a minimum of 6P.
