About this document
Understanding SONET Networking Basics by Ankițâ Anu is a document available to read on EtoBox.
SONET is a standardized protocol that transfers multiple digital bit streams synchronously over optical fiber using lasers or LEDs. It was developed to replace Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy for transmitting large amounts of telephone calls and data traffic over the same fiber without synchronization problems. SONET defines four layers - path, line, section, and photonic - and uses synchronous time-division multiplexing with a master clock to provide end-to-end transport of bit streams across point-to-poi
