Charge recombination in a copolymer of 9,10-diphenylanthracene and sodium polystyrene sulfonate: application of Manning's theory to salt effects by M. Sanquer-Barrié is a Physics and Astronomy article available to read on EtoBox.
What is Charge recombination in a copolymer of 9,10-diphenylanthracene and sodium polystyrene sulfonate: application of Manning's theory to salt effects about?
Manning's calculations for activity coeffmients of small ions in polymer solutions were successfully used to fit the following experimental results: Charge separation and recombination between diphenylanthracene covalently bound to poly(styrene sulfonate) with a zwitterionic electron acceptor is realized by laser flash photolysis and the influence of the ionic strength is studied. The increase in the recombination rate constant with increasing ionic strength is correctly fitted if one applies Manning's theory to a model polyelectrolyte with lower charge density and higher concentration than the actual parameters, together with a kinetic description according to Bransted-Bjerrum's theory. A physical meaning of these results is given.
