What is Eliciting Truthful Signals in DePIN Systems about?

This paper presents a formal model for eliciting unverifiable information from a self-interested source, with applications in decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN). It establishes a condition called source identifiability, which is necessary for creating mechanisms that ensure truthful signal reporting as a strict equilibrium. The authors apply their findings to location and bandwidth proving scenarios, demonstrating the implications for incentive design in DePIN applications.
