The passage discusses the roles of American Indian women Mary Brant and Nancy Ward during the American Revolution. [1] Mary Brant, a Mohawk woman, used her influence to keep western Iroquois tribes loyal to the British, but after the colonial victory they lost their lands. [2] Nancy Ward, a Cherokee "Beloved Woman," supported the Patriots but the Cherokees still lost their territory. [3] Regardless of which side they supported, American Indians lost land after the Revolution.
