Bats are a highly diverse and populous order of mammals that are the only animals capable of flight. They range in size from wingspans of 1.5 meters to only 15 cm, and their numbers are enormous, with some bat colonies containing over 100 million individuals. Bats have a generally similar appearance in flight but vary in size, color, fur and facial features between species. They are most abundant in tropical regions but some species range into temperate areas as well.
