What is Diode Characteristics and Applications about?
Diodes allow current to flow in only one direction, acting as a valve. In forward bias, current flows easily and the diode acts as a short circuit. In reverse bias, little to no current flows and it acts as an open circuit. Diodes have a constant 0.7V drop when forward biased. Special diodes called zener diodes are designed to operate in reverse breakdown and provide voltage regulation. Rectifier circuits using diodes convert AC to DC by passing only one half or full wave of the AC signal.
