What is History of the Newsie Charity Drive about?

Through good times and bad the Newsie has persevered. The Newsie began in 1920 when the editor of a local newspaper started an Empty Stocking Club to help those in need after World War 1. In 1930, he and the mayor created a special newspaper edition, called the Newsie, to help raise more money for charity. The first sale raised $500, a significant amount during the Great Depression. Over the decades, the Newsie has continued and grown in popularity, last year raising over $33,000 to help local families.
