What is Rizal about?

Rizal spent the summer of 1883 in Paris where he observed medical practices but found it to be very expensive. He then joined the Freemasons in Madrid in 1883 to help fight against the abuses of the friars in the Philippines. While studying in Madrid, Rizal earned degrees in medicine, philosophy, and letters but recognized that opportunities would be limited back home due to domination of the Dominican fathers.
