What is New Zealand: Revised Editon about?

Annotation. For many years New Zealand was stereotyped as being a 'sleepy hollow' of the South Pacific, but more recently, it has had an influence in international affairs which belies its size. Noted more for its conservatism and stability than for its innovation and radicalism, it took pride in its depiction as a European farmyard in a Polynesian environment. Since 1984, however, in response to perceived threats to its international trade, and to internal structural problems, successive New Zealand governments have sought to recast the country according to a more market-oriented ethos. The consequent changes have extended beyond deregulation of the economy and a shrinking of the state's role, and have fundamentally influenced almost every aspect of modern New Zealand life. This bibliography, while retaining material from the first edition which portrays New Zealand's past, focuses principally on more recent changes
