Diurnal Rhythm in the Rates of Cell Division, Growth and Photosynthesis of Porphyra yezoensis (Rhodophyceae) Cultured in the Laboratory by T. Oohusa is a Earth and Planetary Sciences article available to read on EtoBox.

What is Diurnal Rhythm in the Rates of Cell Division, Growth and Photosynthesis of Porphyra yezoensis (Rhodophyceae) Cultured in the Laboratory about?

Diurnal variations of cell division, growth rate and photosynthetic capacity of Porphyra yezoensis were investigated, using thalli cultured in the laboratory. These rhythms disappeared under continuous illumination with bright light (50,000 bt), but remained under continuous light of lower intensity (4,000 Ix or 2,500 Ix) although with slightly shifted peaks. Similar patterns were also obtained when the thalli were subjected to a reversed light and dark cycle in low intensity light. Thus, the diurnal biological rhythms in Porphyra thalli seem to take place according to an endogenous circadian rhythm.
