What is Mk II Fuze Mechanism Overview about?

The Mark I fuze was introduced in 1920 with a one-piece shutter but was declared obsolete in 1931 when it was redesigned with a two-piece shutter and longer body as the Mark II. The Mark II served from 1931 through the 1970s through 27 mark number variations. Upon firing, the arming sleeve retracts to release spinning segments that allow the striker to move upward and free the shutter, which rotates into the armed position under its spring. On impact, the firing pin detonates the shell.
