What is Pathophysiology of Amoebiasis about?

Amoebiasis pathophysiology involves the following steps: 1) An amoeba cyst is ingested and passes through the stomach, where it is unaffected. In the intestine, the cyst wall breaks open and the quadrinucleate amoeba emerges. 2) The amoeba divides and colonizes the cecum. From there it can invade the intestinal mucosa, forming ulcers and spreading through the large intestine. 3) The amoeba can also invade the liver through the portal vein, causing abscesses.
