The method can only be used if flanges, bolts, and gaskets meet ASME specifications and bolts have a yield strength over 20,000 psi at 100°F. Caesar II calculates the external moment on the flange using an equation involving bolt area and yield strength. Users input bolt details, material properties, run the analysis, and check if flange stresses are below 100% of allowable to determine if leakage may occur.
