Sam Walton was born on March 29, 1918 near Kingfisher, Oklahoma to parents Thomas Gibson and Nancy Lee Walton. He would go on to found Walmart, building it into the largest retailer in the world and becoming a billionaire in the process. Walton was a pioneer in the retail industry by keeping costs low and passing the savings on to customers.
