About this document
EARS: Simplifying Requirements Syntax by Adam Mazurek is a document available to read on EtoBox.
This document presents a method called EARS (Easy Approach to Requirements Syntax) for structuring natural language requirements using a small set of syntactic rules. The authors applied EARS to requirements in a certification standard for aircraft engines. EARS addresses common problems in natural language requirements such as ambiguity, complexity, and vagueness by expressing each requirement using one of five simple templates. The results of applying EARS showed qualitative and quantitative improvements
