A new synthesis of cisdichlorobis(methylamine)platinum(I1) is described. It appears that during the crystallization process at least two types of crystals are formed. Form A is monoclinic with space group P2,/n and unit cell dimensionsa = 6.272, b = 15.726, c=7.419 A, p=99.86', V=721 w3, Z=4, R= 0.055. Form B is monoclinic, with space group P21/c and unit cell dimensions a = 16.078, b = 6.372, c=21.459 A, 0=92.7', V=2196 A3, Z=12, R= 0.057. The two forms can be readily distinguished by IR spectroscopy.
