What is Ketamine about?

This study investigates the effects of ketamine on the Bispectral Index (BIS) and spectral entropy (RE and SE) during sevoflurane anaesthesia in 22 women undergoing gynaecological surgery. Results showed that ketamine significantly increased BIS, RE, and SE without altering the RE–SE gradient, indicating a paradoxical increase in these measures despite a deepening level of hypnosis. The findings suggest that ketamine may confound BIS as a guide for hypnotic administration during anaesthesia.
