Timothy Ray Brown was the first person to be cured of HIV/AIDS after receiving a bone marrow transplant from a donor with a genetic mutation that made their cells resistant to HIV infection. He developed leukemia in addition to his HIV infection. After chemotherapy failed to treat his leukemia, he received a bone marrow transplant from the donor.
