About this document

Redox Reactions in General Chemistry 2 by Patrisha Georgia Amiten is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Oxidation is the loss of electrons by an atom or molecule, increasing its oxidation state, while reduction is the gain of electrons, decreasing its oxidation state. Reduction reactions always occur with oxidation reactions as the other half of a redox reaction. A galvanic cell uses two different metals and their ionic solutions to drive a redox reaction, with oxidation occurring at the anode and reduction at the cathode.
