What is Molten salts: characterization and analysis : by G. Mamantov. Dekker, New York (1969). $16.75. about?

LARGE sustriinlng influence on the field of molten salt chemistry has always derived from nuclear reactor research and from the possibilities of high-temperature electro-refining of reactor fuels. Not surprisingly therefore, Harwell in Britain and the Oak Ridge and Argonne National Laboratories in the U.S.A. were the early centres of excellence and a high levd of interest has continued, particularly at Oak Ridge where the ambitious project of a homogeneous continuously regenerated molten fluoride reactor was successfully operated during the middle 1960%. The expertise available to the Union Carbide Corporation at Oak Ridge and elsewhere encompasses exact measurements made on the most corrosive of high-temperature fluoride and molten metal systems and it finds one outlet at the nearby University of Tennessee where Gleb Mamantov is Professor. His own interests in this field are independently estabhshed and he has gathered together in this book twenty chapters on aspects of molten salts, nine of which derive from those who are or were members of the Oak Ridge
