This document provides procedures for determining the asphalt binder content of hot mix asphalt using the ignition method. There are two methods, A and B, that are described. Method A uses a furnace with an internal balance to automatically calculate the mass of the sample before and after ignition. The HMA sample is heated in the furnace to burn off the asphalt binder. The residual aggregate mass is measured and the asphalt binder content is calculated as the difference between the initial and final masses
