As she goes through each step of the process, she asks if they want to provide assistance. The answer is always no. Finally the pie is done and she calls her piglets to supper. When her so-called friends ask if they can have some pie, she tells them that since they did not help, they cannot have any pie. Aside from the fact that turnip pie does not sound particular appealing, the message of helping with work in order to earn a share of the rewards comes through loud and clear.
