What is Age at First Drink and Alcohol Dependence about?

This study examined the relationship between age at first alcohol drink and adult drinking patterns in 99 alcohol-dependent patients in India. The mean age at first drink was 21 years. Earlier age at first drink correlated with more chronic heavy drinking in adulthood, including more drinking days per week and higher maximum drinks. This suggests that policies aiming to prevent underage drinking may help reduce harmful drinking patterns later in life.
