This study examined the effectiveness of probiotics in preventing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants. The researchers conducted a meta-analysis of 11 randomized controlled trials involving a total of 2,839 preterm infants. They found that supplementation with probiotics resulted in a significant reduction in the incidence of NEC. Probiotics also reduced mortality and sepsis in preterm infants without any reported adverse effects.
