A study of the crystal structure of the rhodium-allene complex (CsH702)Rh(C,Hrs.)s gave important information on the molecular geometry of the allene ligand, which has since been confirmed by crystal-structure analyses of iodobis(triphenylphosphine)allene rhodium', and (Cs H, 0s )Rh [CHs CC(CHs )z ] and (CO), Rhz (Cs H702)2 (CH, CCH2)'. The preliminary results presented here of the crystal structure analysis of [Cls Pt(C, Hr,)] s sh ow that this compound, too, is a simple allene complex and that the geometry of the allene ligand is as previously found. The complex [ClaPt(C,H1s)CC14] s crystallizes from carbon tetrachloride as cubic crystals in the orthorhombic space group P&a (D$r, No. 61)4, with cell parametets a = 20.738 f 3, b = 13.014 + 2, c = 11.568 zk 2, U= 3122.0 A3, z = 8,M= 1032.4, Dx = 2.196. The crystallographic asymmetric unit is ClzPt(C,Hrz)CC14, the dimer molecule having strict Ci symmetry. Complete three-dimensional data to sin 6 = 0.42 (Moth radiation) were collected on the Nonius three-circle automatic single-crystal diffractometer, using the e-28 scan method.
