What is PAA From BZCN about?

Phenylacetic acid is prepared by heating benzyl cyanide and sulfuric acid. Benzylic acid is treated with dilute sulfuric acid to produce phenylactic acid. The resulting distillate contains at least 80 per cent of the theoretical amount. It is convenient to use the modified method given in (Note 3) for small quantities.
