About this document

TIG Welding Discontinuities Explained by Anil Kulkarni is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Tungsten inclusions and oxide inclusions are two unique discontinuities that can occur in TIG welds of metals like aluminum and stainless steel. Tungsten, from the electrode used in TIG welding, may become entrapped in the weld if improper procedures are used. Oxide inclusions are also common, especially in aluminum, appearing as dark irregular shapes in radiographs since oxides are less dense than the surrounding material.
