About this document

Hachioji Junction Environmental Conservation by Gary Lopez is a document available to read on EtoBox.

1) The Hachioji junction in Tokyo links several expressways and was built in a natural environment. To conserve nature, local plant seeds were collected and seedlings grown and replanted on slopes. 2) After 10 years, surveys found trees and vegetation had grown back, and animals had returned. Planted seedlings in older slopes had higher survival rates. 3) Soil animal surveys found newer slopes resembled constructed areas, while older slopes resembled surrounding forests, indicating environmental recovery
