The synthesis of new cationic bolaphiles in which the hydrophobic section is partially ̄uorinated, is described. These bisquaternary ammonium salts are obtained by quaternisation with methyl iodide of -hydroxyamines and -carboxyamines, synthesised from two suf®ciently reactive intermediates, namely an w±w H diepoxide and an w±w H dibromoacetate which are the result of reaction with a diol, formula HOCH 2 (CF 2 ) 3 CH 2 OH.
