What is Plague Deaths and 14th-Century Tombs about?

When the Pope asked how many people died from the plague, he was told at least 20 million in Europe and 17 million in Asia, which was far more than the 8 million soldiers who died in World War I. During the plague, corpses were buried in mass graves marked with simple crosses. Images of skeletons and decaying bodies were common on 14th century tombs, reflecting how frequently people faced death at that time.
