What is Understanding Hyponatremia Management about?

Hyponatremia is defined as a plasma sodium level less than 135 mEq/L. It can be characterized by hypo-osmolality or normal osmolality. Treatment involves correcting water imbalance through restriction and correcting salt imbalance through oral salt or IV fluids like normal saline or 3% saline. Correction must be done slowly to avoid complications like central pontine myelinolysis. Vasopressin receptor antagonists can also be used to treat SIADH.
