At a time when new imaging technologies are becoming integrated into the field of radiology and replacing more classical studies, it is prudent to remember that the time-tested nondigitized, nontomographic barium study continues to remain the primary radiological technique for examining the stomach and duodenum. There is no ultrasound in this text and only short chapters on computerized tomography and angiography . For the ultrasonographer, therefore, there is little of interest; for the practicing radiologist, however, this book provides a most informative source for the performance and interpretation of the barium study. This is the third volume of a series by the authors on gastrointestinal radiology and is similar in format to the first two volumes which cover the small bowel and colon. It is a multi-authored text with 26 authors, including the three editors. As with any multi-authored text, there is some redundancy, conflict, and uneven topic emphasis.
