This article describes a study of HELLP syndrome cases at a Peruvian hospital. The study found 71 cases of HELLP syndrome among 30,618 deliveries, for an incidence of 0.23%. Most cases (68%) were in multiparous women with an average age of 33. Diagnosis was made during pregnancy in 46% of cases and in the postpartum period in 54%. Maternal morbidity was high, including renal failure in 25% of cases, hepatic hematoma in 11%, respiratory failure in 7%, and eclampsia in 6%. Maternal mortality was 3%. The study
