About this document

Agile Software Development in Railways by Thor Myklebust is a document available to read on EtoBox.

This document summarizes a survey of software development practices in the European railway signalling sector. The survey found that the main challenges for railway software development are managing changing requirements. Railway development currently uses the V-model which emphasizes upfront planning over flexibility. This creates tensions as software is more flexible than hardware. The authors reviewed over 35 railway safety cases and found they primarily use normal prose rather than structured notations.
