A 10-year follow-up study of the APPAC trial evaluated the long-term outcomes of antibiotic therapy for uncomplicated acute appendicitis, involving 530 patients. The results indicated a 37.8% recurrence rate of appendicitis and a 44.3% appendectomy rate among those initially treated with antibiotics, with significantly lower complication rates compared to the appendectomy group. The findings support the use of antibiotics as a viable treatment option for uncomplicated acute appendicitis in adults.
